barrio resiliency

We are grounded in community-based efforts that promote climate resilience, further our understanding that we are nature, and recognize that alternatives to the climate crisis are born from Barrio Resiliency in our urban border community.

The women and children of our community have been at the forefront of preserving our narrative, from the stories of our grandparents and our children, to the stories of the land, as well as our practice in taking care of plants in macetas and in gardens, and cooking food for our families.

OUR PRACTICE

We create and sustain community through our existing knowledge, creativity, and relationships.

Intergenerational intercambios (exchanges) guide our work in organizing workshops and platicas (dialogues) led by residents to build alternative solutions for long-term change and build the neighborhood we deserve.

Our annual celebration of the Tianguis del Chamizal creates space to celebrate the art and culture that comes from our community, resident-led workshops of; cooking classes where we share healthy ancestral recipes, planting workshops with tips and struggles that many face while planting in Barrio Chamizal, music workshops and theater skits to help tell our story and remind us we have the capacity to create the community we deserve.
