RAYITO DE SOL: Daycare and Learning Center

In 1999, six students from the first graduating class of the El Puente Community Learning Center worked in cooperation with the El Puente Community Development Corporation to create a childcare center that would fulfill the childcare and employment needs of the South-Central El Paso community.

"Rayito de Sol was created with the following objectives in mind:
• To provide quality childcare services for the local community;
• To train NAFTA-displaced workers and members of the local community for jobs in childcare
• To provide training in entrepreneurship for owners of home-based day care centers"

With a grand opening on February 2, 2001, the Café is now almost four years old. This restaurant/catering/events center has successfully captured what was an underserved market of business people and residents in south central El Paso. It has successfully proved that the area can support new business and that these can attract customers not only from the surrounding South Central neighborhood businesses and inhabitants, but also from the Downtown area, the University and other areas of the City.

Its mission is to provide a safe and nurturing environment that promotes the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development of children with the help and involvement of their parents and our community. By offering services at an affordable rate, Rayito de Sol participates in the South-Central El Paso community-building efforts of the El Puente Community Development Corporation.

Rayito opened its doors on March 21, 2000, and is El Puente’s oldest social purpose business. With nearly over seven years of experience, its solid financials performance and the professionalism of its staff has managed to create a name for itself and its team as a four star high quality bilingual daycare center that has gained statewide recognition. For nearly its entire operations, it has been a “Designated Vendor”, a certification of quality services, which only one out of every four daycares in El Paso receives.

Rayito de Sol operates Monday through Friday, from 6am to 6pm. It provides transportation to and from school within a 2 mile radius of the Center.
