MISSION

Over the span of 26 years, we have established our roots and foundation in the South Central barrio of El Paso and have offered a wide range of social and educational services, as well as cultural programming to the community. We have worked diligently and have dedicated our hearts to develop and revitalize the South Central barrio and create long-term, sustainable economic opportunities for area residents and the greater El Paso community.

La Mujer Obrera exists to uphold our most basic human rights: access to nourishment, housing, education, employment, and health care, as well as the right to live in peace and to freely participate in society. We educate ourselves and others to develop economic alternatives in defense of our dignity and as representation of our interests.

As an organization, we have worked to respond to the following question:

In the midst of globalization, how do we, as women and as displaced workers, defend our rights and build sustainable communities rooted in justice and human dignity?

As La Mujer Obrera completes its third decade, as we continue to seek and create solutions to this question, our organizational goals continue to be:

` Women’s Empowerment: Secure the right and the capacity to develop as women, in community, and for our families, as a people with a history and a rich cultural heritage to affirm and share;

` Economic Development: Generate women’s economic empowerment through social enterprises, small business support, and bilingual workforce development; and

` Community Development: Build community, while sustaining our roots through neighborhood revitalization, job creation, housing development, and educational projects that celebrate Mexican cultural heritage.

"How do we, as Mexican immigrant women workers, combat the destruction generated by globalization, and build sustainable communities rooted in dignity and justice?"

Please join us in creating a sustainable future for Mexican immigrant women workers and their families in the United States.
